although it is depressing, i found that coping with the whole “same-sex attraction doesn’t exist/is bigoted” mindset that exists in the community right now is a bit easier to deal with once you recognize that the people saying this were never that close to you to begin with. instead of feeling like you’re being betrayed by a close family that’s gone through many hardships together, it’s easier to realize that most of these people – if you had met them in a different time period; in a different era where the current lgbt political climate did not exist – would
probably
not have believed in your sexuality back then either.
