New favorite thing I’ve learned in my wildlife classes:
There is a “device” used to scare away problem wildlife (mostly avian) that’s just literally called Scarey Man®
here he is. The Scarey Man
®
honestly he is so…..entrancing….…
Y’all sciencey types now what a scarecrow is, right? Y’all don’t need to go making up new fangled names for them.
as both a hillbilly and a scientist I take issue with this rejection of Scarey Man®. He is protecting my crops and my science.
I am also a hillbilly and grew up a dirt crop level farmer, and I can assure you i know my goddamned scarecrows and that is no goddamn scarecrow. That’s a bona-fide Scarey Man®.
Holy crap. It’s inflatable. And Scarey.
Powerful.
This is the last known sighting of Richard Estrada, 64. Estrada requested that his daughter take the photo on September 20th, 2010, saying he could “show [his wife] that her dummy is still out there doing its job”, before going out into the field. Estrada’s wife later confirmed that she while she had ordered a scarecrow to place in their farm, it was a different product that hadn’t yet arrived, and that she had never seen the object in the photograph before. Police were unable to find any trace of Estrada or of the object pictured.
