Just say woman or girl. No man in any culture is expected to wear the hijab so I don’t understand why you choose to not specify the sex class who are expected to wear the hijab.
The reason why women – and not men- are expected to wear the hijab is because Islam considers our bodies to be sinful and that they drive men to commit forbidden acts and so the burden falls on women and girls in order to stop men from raping and molesting them by covering up. This is what it means to be so sexualized that the way you express yourself with your clothes, mannerism..etc. is mandated by the fact that 50% of the population cannot control themselves and would hurt you if you don’t cover up.
To cover up a child is to say that her body and hair is too sexual for others to see and would entice men to molest or rape this child. This child’s body is already being covered up and conserved for her supposed future husband. This child is already taught the social construct of virginity as well.
I have every right to point out when tumblr’s absolutist culture becomes xenophobic. I have never seen the outrage I see on this post reflected on any Western religion. It happens, I’m sure, but never to this degree. Why do you think that is?

Secondly, the women who agreed with me are women who listened to what I went through and who understand that choices aren’t made in vacuum and who understand how culture plays a role in conditioning women to internalize misogyny and think of themselves as walking meat or candy that needs to be covered lest it becomes soiled.
