When people say that BDSM is rooted in the sexualization of the inequity of power, this is what they are talking about. And yes, I know that the “not all BDSM” or “this isn’t real BDSM” crusaders are coming, and I realize that most people in BDSM are not consciously thinking like this. However, this is what happens when sex is used as a tool to “put someone in their place”.
Whatever your opinion, it is no coincidence that BDSM eventually manifests itself in this way. In BDSM, sex is used as a form of power over another person instead of something reciprocal that people can enjoy together. Think about porn in general. Sex is used to break women down, to degrade them, to let them “know their place” as this says. As much as we would all love to think that these users are on the fringe of society, they are not.
Pornographers openly admit that porn is about violence against women and that it is often used as a way for men to “cope” with women in real life who reject or ignore them. I honestly don’t care if people still want to like BDSM, but we need to stop thinking that there are no consequences, or that dominance and submission are completely natural. Shit like this honestly scares me.
