imagine wanting to virtue signal so hard that you act like you want this to be like your last words

sometime last year i was getting some REALLY crazy and intense messages from a few people bc there was a callout going around, and i looked at both of their blogs and they were having to evacuate from a natural disaster. they were posting about being scared and both were angry at their parents for how they were handling the situation (both were over 18 but not moved out). i know it’s armchair psychiatry but it really seemed to me like they were lashing out at a safe target because they felt helpless. it really made me think about how female people deemed terfs are cleared as an acceptable (even rewarded!) object for misogynistic hatred and blowing off steam. it’s really troubling and crazy to me how people facing serious stuff in their life will target that rage and hurt onto terfs. posting about terfs won’t stop the danger you’re in. the several slur-filled death threats those two were sending me didn’t change that they had to evacuate. performative hatred of terfs does nothing except feed the cult-like conditioning that’s been instilled and provide a fleeting, empty relief that changes nothing about the things that are actually going wrong in your life. anyway, good luck to op
