i can’t believe this needs to be said but if you’re not gay you do not have gayness to express

Also saying you’re gay, when you’re actually bi, reinforces incorrect ideas of homosexuality.

Homosexuality is despised by homophobes (of any kind – concervative, religious, whatever) due to attraction towards the members of one’s own sex being seen as an anomaly, disgusting and perverse.

If a homophobe sees someone calling themselves gay and then dating/loving/desiring people their opposite gender, they don’t care whether you’re bi and just using slang, or actually homosexual. All they see is “gay” people in m/f relationships, which reinforces the idea that being gay is a choice. Or worse – that homosexuality can be “cured”.

Not to mention it erases bisexuality

If you wouldn’t say that a bisexual is straight because of their opposite sex attraction or current opposite sex relationship, you shouldn’t call them (or yourself) gay for the same reason

Gay has a meaning

And gay people NEED it to have meaning if we’re going to be capable of fighting for our rights or even just discussing our reality

It’s truly that simple
