The thing that gets me about Aileen Wuornos is that she’s only famous because women aren’t violent. All the other ‘big hitter’ serial killers had 35+ bodies counts, or would torture their victims in crazy ways, or something memorable and awful like that. But Aileen Wuornos gets put on that list and is called ‘one of the most cold blooded killers in American history’ for doing things no one would even acknowledge a man doing.
Like think of the reverse; a guy shoots 7 prostitutes over the course of a year. Would that even get news coverage? Maybe locally, but would he be well known at all? The only thing that’d be considered odd or ‘worth talking about’ is that he only shot women, and didn’t torture, rape, and violently murder them (ex: strangling, stabbing, hunting, etc.) like most male killers do.
Murder is murder, she did some evil shit, but it seems pretty obvious to me that she is only famous so men can pretend women are as violent as them.
A few details for those who don’t know:
•Her father raped and attempted to murder a 7 year old while she was an infant, her mother was extremely neglectful up until she abandoned her, and her grandfather/adoptive father would psychologically abuse her (treating her much worse than his other children, drowning her pet cat in front of her, etc)and would brutally whip her almost daily, from her early childhood into her adolescence. (Source: Wuornos herself and her childhood friend, Dawn Botkins)
•She been raped dozens of times by the time she was 18, by her grandfather (unproven but experts on the case and childhood friends believe it’s EXTREMELY likely), by classmates (older boys at her school had convinced her to prostitute herself at age 11 for cigarettes, earning her constant harassment and the nickname ‘cig pig’ across the school. Verified by multiple classes), by a family friend (resulting in pregnancy at the age of just 14, after which she was sent to a home for unwed mothers, gave birth to a boy named Keith she gave up for adoption, and was thrown out upon returning home)
• 14 and homeless, she lived in the woods with other abandoned children, they often slept in forts, or at best in neighbors abandoned cars when they were allowed. (Verified by multiple people who knew her as a child. The whole town was aware that her and many other children lived in the woods, including teachers and social workers, yet no one attempted to help)
• Dropped out in 9th grade, after which she became a child prostitute and drifter.
• Around age 18 she discovered the decapitated and dismembered corpse of a young girl while trying to sleep under a bridge outside of Chicago. She immediately sought help from a passing trucker who was unsympathetic and drove off without helping. (This event was never proved to be true, but isn’t unlikely)
•At the time of her execution she was undeniably psychotic, showing little if any understanding of reality. (Source: see for yourself https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Y9ytpB-lOBQ remember, she had already been sentenced to death and had no reason to lie)
I REPEAT: SHE WAS, WITHOUT A DOUBT, COMPLETELY INSANE, YET WAS STILL EXECUTED (read:murdered) BY THE US GOVERNMENT
•Gary Ridgway was convicted of murdering 49, confessed to murdering 71, and is believed to have been involved in the murders of 90+ women and girls, most of who were prostitutes and child runaways. (Source: Himself and his prosecutors)
•His victims ranged from age 15 (likely younger as many adolescent ‘Jane Doe’ victims have yet to be identified) to age 38. (Source: ^)
•He never showed signs of insanity, just extreme narcissism and lack of empathy (Source: prosecution)
•He was never executed. I guess he just wasn’t as dangerous.
