can some of y’all please stop saying “porn is rape on tape” ?? like i get it, porn is bad and we’re all against it for numerous reasons, but  the whole “rape on tape” thing isn’t gonna make anyone take you seriously and it sounds really absurd to someone whose not familiar with anti porn stances.

plus, it makes it sound like you’re generalizing all porn to be coerced or forced. which does sometimes happen in the industry, but thats only one problem. A lot of it is not forced and is consensual, but there’s a bunch of other underlying problems. talk about those. its a better approach, imo.

#notallporn

I mean to be fair this is pretty spot on. Sometime radfemblr words shit in the most histrionic way without actually going into depth about it making us look like we’re just shouting slogans blindly.

You go up to someone who watches porn (without prior knowledge about the negative consequences) and tell them they’re a rape apologist or watching rape on tape, people are going to look at you like you’re a fucking moron and will instinctively be defensive (which happens a lot. Like, a lot. It’s fucking embarrassing).

There are better ways to communicate an anti porn point than to use some 0-100 bullshit.

Watching rape on tape = the very (very) likely possibility that the people participating are being raped/sexually assaulted/coerced/groomed whether it be through force, financial instability, drug addiction etc. There is no way to know if the porn you’re watching is consensual & judging from industry experiences, statistics etc, it most likely isn’t due to some type of extenuating factors.
