San Francisco Public Library hosting an exhibit of misogynistic weapons and ‘art’ created by men who hate lesbians.
“TERF is an acronym for ‘trans exclusionary
radical feminist,’ an oppressive belief set that attempts to
delegitimize trans women– not just theoretically, but by inducing
suicide through internet harassment, public release of personal
information, calls to employers and landlords, legal action and
substantiated threats of death and physical harm (a couple word that are
too blurry to read) against minors. it is possible that more trans deaths have resulted as a result of TERF harassment than by cis male homicides.”
this is a current exhibit at the san francisco public library. after some backlash, the “i punch terfs” shirt has been removed (source).
i
called in to see what the vetting process was like and was told that
exhibits can be approved up to a year in advance and are vetted by a
committee.
this is the contact info to share your thoughts – you can reach the committee at programing@sspl.org or reach someone at the library by calling (415) 557-4277.
when
i called, i said that i was really disturbed by the unsubstantiated
claims that i felt bordered on propaganda and were definitely evocative
of violence against feminists and women in general. the woman i spoke to
was very professional and kind. i encourage you to weigh in. i was told
the library is releasing a statement later today.
1st rule of misogyny: Women are responsible for what men do. 2nd rule of misogyny: Women saying no to men is a hate crime. 3rd rule of misogyny: Women speaking for themselves are exclusionary and selfish. 4th rule of misogyny: Women’s opinions are violence against men thus male violence against women is justified. 5th rule of misogyny: Women and Feminism must be useful to men or they are worthless. 6th rule of misogyny: Women who go around being female AT men by menstruating and breast feeding babies deserve punishment. 7th rule of misogyny: Women should always be grateful to men for everything. 8th rule of misogyny: Men are whatever men say they are and women are whatever men say they are. 9th rule of misogyny: Men always know the “real reasons” for everything women do and say. 10th rule of misogyny: The worst thing about male violence is that it makes men look bad. 11th rule of misogyny: whatever women suffer from, it is worse when it happens to men. 12th rule of misogyny: Women’s ability to recognize male behavior patterns is misandry.
This is the statement from the SF Public Library:
I can’t believe they haven’t realized this entire exhibition is promoting violence againt “uppity” women who dare question trans politics.
