People treat single moms like trash and single dads like some kind of a hero
Because the bar is so low for dads that the bare minimum of care is incredible but mums are just expected to be doing that work
Because single moms “made bad choices” and ended up “stuck with a kid” and it’s treated like a punishment that they deserve (as though another human being is a punishment). And the implication is that a dad has every right to choose not to take care of his children and if he does, it’s treated like he’s going above and beyond and making a huge sacrifice
This reminds me of this post I saw on reddit from a teen who got his ex girlfriend pregnant on
He assumed she wouldn’t be able to go to college because “it’s going to be super tough with a kid” but didn’t think twice about not going to college himself. They both have a kid. But it’s her responsibility?
This is what men don’t get. Because women give birth we are assumed to be the sole/primary caretakers. We don’t get a choice; men get to decide when it’s convenient to be a dad.
men get to decide when it’s convenient to be a dad.

Women are also seen as entirely responsible for falling pregnant and raising the child, until the topic of abortion comes up, then it’s “what about the father’s rights?? It’s his child too! The father should have an equal say in what happens to his child!!”
