why do radfems act like the hatred of periods stems from misogyny and not… y’know… how fucking gross and scary blood is to most people?? Like because it’s an inherently female thing it’s somehow pure and beautiful and not just as gross as an oozing cut?
Is this why some women die because they are forced to stay in menstrual huts for the duration of their periods? Because it’s “icky”? We see gore and violence all of the time, walking dead and game of thrones are probably the most popularity TV shows in North America… But sure, women die of infections because their periods are “scary”. Also OP, what is “gross and scary” about someone bleeding from somewhere you can’t even see unless they leak??? Lolgrow the fuck up.
Period blood is the only blood not born of violence and yet it’s the blood that offends people the most.
It is misogyny because it’s not just the blood people complain about, they also say things “what, are you on your period or something?” whenever women respond to things with slightly more anger or emotion than people want us to show. Also, in a lot of religions/societies menstruation is seen as inherently dirty and women aren’t even allowed to come in the house. You think a man with an oozing cut would be treated like that in those places?
I love all the “I have regular periods and I think it’s gross” comments. Cool. Doesn’t matter if you think it’s gross. Women are isolated, exiled, mutilated, and even killed because of their bodies and functions they can’t help. 50% of the population has to deal with it regardless of whether they think it’s gross or not. Blood is gross, we all know that. But it’s something that is uncontrollable, it’s involuntary. So instead of stigmatizing it and making It this evil elephant in the room, some women dare to do the opposite so they can be at peace with it. Creating art and cute comics that show periods in a romantic/mystical way isn’t harming anyone or forcing you to love periods. It’s just showing women they can love their bodies and not hate something they have no control over. If you’re that weak that you cant handle the thought of menstruation you’re too immature to be involved in discourse about women’s reproductive Rights.
