About a year ago, my best friend and I had decided to go out partying as a final goodbye before she moved states. It had been a fun night of drinking and dancing, and in the later stages of the evening, I had started talking to this very tall, very cute guy. He was very sweet, and friendly, but I wasn’t really interested in anything more than harmless flirting, as I was getting over a two year relationship ending. As the night came to a close, my bestie, the boy and I were all standing outside the bar. I was waiting for my friend’s husband to pick her up, and after she had gone, I kept talking to the guy I’d been talking to. He asked me if I wanted to go home with him, which I politely declined, explaining my recent heartbreak, and that I was really ready for any of that. He said that’s okay and we had an innocent hug goodbye, and I walked off to the taxi rank…
At that time of the morning, it’s usually not as quiet as it was, but it was kind of a ghost town. This guy had quietly walked up behind me, and he grabbed my hair and pulled me to the ground… He was incredibly drunk, and stronger than I’d given him credit for, and kept screaming at me, “YOU DON’T JUST ACCEPT DRINKS FROM SOMEONE YOU’RE NOT GOING TO SLEEP WITH YOU STUPID FUCKING WHORE”, and waving his fist around… He punched me hard in the jaw, and started kicking me. Then he grabbed me by my hair again, and tried to pull me to my feet to drag me away, but while I was getting to my feet, I managed to land a hard punch in his groin, and with the weight of my body I managed to shove him away. He fell, I grabbed my stuff, and I ran for my life. I called my bestie, and I was hysterical, so her and her husband turned the car around and came to get me- and we went straight to the police station to make a report.
Thankfully, I’m quite tall and solidly built, and pretty strong, and if I hadn’t been taken by surprise, it wouldn’t have been quite as bad as it had been. But my face looked like I had been rubbing against sand paper, and I was bruised all over, and had a blood nose and was pretty sore. It’s still one of the scariest things I’ve ever experienced, and I always wonder what would have happened if I had been smaller, if I wasn’t in the right state of mind to defend myself, etc.
