Maybe it’s just me but “queer” was basically just a way to turn gay people’s experiences into something bite sized and palatable for straight people

Gay people started getting widely accepted and turned into the newest political hot topic and the hets started feeling left out so they peeled off what they wanted to emulate from the gay community and twisted it and molded it into the “queer community” where no one could make THEM feel left out, and they turned our experiences into “identities” and pretty new things to try on, and they turned our lives into something to be consumed by straight people as entertainment or politics, and then they tried to sell this mess of a hetersexual gay community to us as a real thing and everyone bought into it

Hey guys let’s take a vote, isn’t this THE MOST pretentious way you’ve ever seen someone say “Well gay is just being DIFFERENT and SPECIAL so ANYONE can be gay ~ isn’t it just beautiful how much better we are than the straights”

You’re 27 and you believe the LGBT community is some cute club for anyone that feels too special to be straight. YOU are the kind of person this post was about.

That’s it exactly, the privileged trying to reassert the status quo and mad that a disadvantaged group got to be “special”. I’ve said it before, straight people are upset that the gay community isn’t their kitschy, pitiable zoo anymore. It turns out we really did want equal rights and normalcy, not to just to be there for straight people to dip their toes into a scene with all the freaks and weirdos and then pretend we don’t actually exist in society at large.

So with that shit less tolerated suddenly they’re “queering” up everything to take it back, to put us in our place. Cause they never actually thought our rights would go anywhere and just pat themselves on the back for what they saw as humoring us.
