This should be an indicator of how racist and misogynist porn is. People should be worried about how harmful this is and how it sexualises basically everything everyone should be against. it is not for impersonal, academic, detached reasons that i oppose pornography and prostitution so vehemently.

so, it must be screamingly obvious to you by now, if youre still reading this blog, that radical feminists are not really an enemy of trans people. i think that there are transphobic radfems, but that there is no evidence the handful of radical feminist women who are legitimately transphobic translate this to real life violence. and harassing them clearly only deepens their resentment and anger against trans people.

as you may know, radical feminism is the only feminist tendency which calls for the truly radical and urgently necessary solution of abolishing prostitution and pornography as part of a wider effort to eradicate womens oppression worldwide. where this mission coincides with the mission to eliminate all forms of class distinction and exploitation of working people, and all forms of racism, racial violence and ethnic prejudice, is where i think the sweet spot of constructive political goalmaking lies. either all of these missions are completed in tandem or none of them will ever come to fruition.

many people on here clamor for good and dignifying representations of trans people. i agree with them. so what is it that makes trans women and gender nonconforming men appear before the public eye as ‘shemales’, as ‘tranny hookers’? it is the pimp and john, it is pornography. what is it that makes trans men into ‘rentboys’, what uses them as degraded props for commoditized portrayals of violent, abusive sex? it is the pimp and john, it is pornography.

go back to the feed for a bit, if you would. try and think about real people typing in these words and the videos of real human beings they might find. think about what it makes them think of us, of trans women and trans men, of gender nonconforming men and gender nonconforming women. (pornography, of course, does not distinguish between trans person and crossdresser). think about what similar things are being done to women, being done to gay men, in this violent, powerful, extremely wealthy, and widely propagandized industry.

human sexuality will be just fine (much improved, actually) without prostitution and pornography, so forget those who say this is prudery or repression or against presumed ‘human nature’. these things, alongside all other forms of sexual violence, are poisonous to human sexuality. the less trauma, the less violence, the less objectification that exists in our society, the more room people have to develop a healthy sex life that involves no coercion or compelling and entirely reflects their own personal boundaries and desires.

more than just recovering the possibility for human sexuality to lose its violent, morally abhorrent features and become a healthy social institution, the radical feminist anti-prostitution and anti-porn goals are mandatory, let me repeat that, mandatory to securing the goals of safety, health, and freedom from objectification or hateful prejudice that feminism and the trans movement both demand for those they fight for.

we *cannot* secure the most important needs of trans people as long as pimps and pornographers own, exploit, publicly humiliate and degrade us, and proliferate their hate speech against us throughout society. using the toolbox of political solutions that socialism and radical feminism provide for us, we can and must render that form of exploitation impossible, totally removing the exploiters’ ability to exploit.

do you know what the implications of all this are?

radical feminists are not the enemy. in fact, they are the only group out there that is willing to fight against the major source of our exploitation. the people making the videos that those search engine searches are supposed to lead to.

they should by every means be our trusted allies, and if we want this to happen we must turn the tide against witch hunting, baseless accusation and fruitless anger, and collectively treat them with the respect they are absolutely entitled to. we need to be vigilant against predators and abusers in our community, for the sake of women no less or more than for our own sake.

if we don’t wake up and change our ways, if we don’t rebuild the bridges that we have burned with the women who are harassed and publicly slandered by those claiming to speak for us, then what hope do we have of greater political aspirations? how will our community ever rise above being led by the pro-porn and pro-prostitution ideologues who sell us out and tell us that the oppression of our sisters and brothers is okay, is normal, is actually empowering? (i will stop just short of naming names here, but there are some mighty popular trans community figures on here and out there, playing the role of recruiter, the role of madame, the role of pimp, the role of porn entrepreneur themselves, and none of your sugarcoated stated intentions can override the harm rendered by your amoral actions and by the dangerous lies you teach other people.)

if we don’t oppose pornography and prostitution, become radicals ourselves, radical feminists and radical feminist allies, and in doing so recognize and denounce our exploiters, how will we ever be anything more than the useful idiots of our worst enemies?
