I’ve only just now realized that I’m a lesbian (I’m 16) because my mother has always dismissed me questioning my sexuality. I have now broken free of this illusion she set up for me, and of course she denies me. “I don’t think you’re gay” what does that even mean? How would she know? What, do I have to make out with a girl right in front of her to prove it? “I just think you’re too young to be deciding that” so I’m just supposed to deny my attraction and arousal towards women my whole life?

I think when people say stuff like “you’re too young to know you’re gay”, what they really mean is “you’re still young enough to where I can traumatize you by drilling into your head how terrible being gay is and hopefully you respond to it by repressing your sexuality and pretending to be straight.”

My favorite (not) one I got was from my grandmother when I was 15. The conversation went like this:

“So… I’m gay.”

“No you’re not.”

Other people don’t know you better than you know yourself.
