the term “penis repulsion” is incompatible with understanding compulsory heterosexuality.

compulsory heterosexuality, from a lesbian standpoint, tells us that what we may (mis)interpret as attraction to men is in fact socialized tendencies. it is not genuine because it harms our mental health to pursue heterosexuality. the problem with this terminology is that it completely erases the language and experiences of homosexual women who struggle with comp het.

why must i be repulsed by the opposite sex’s body to be a homosexual? this labeling does a disservice to everyone. homosexuality does not exist because of repulsion or trauma, it exists as a natural state, and coincidentally, many of us happen to be traumatized.

insinuating we are repulsed by another to deny them sex is the definition of homophobia. it is a troubling mental health concern for those who feel homosexuals should not talk about our experiences, or completely change our language to appease to rhetoric that ultimately damages and retraumatizes us. you either take this as a legitimate concern, or you don’t. either way, homosexuality will always exist.
