My boss, who is a grown woman with children my age, just whispered, âOh, this is going to be so fucking efficient,â before spraying Febreze directly into the ceiling fan and proceeding to cough her guts out when it blew back in her face.
I think one of my least favorite types of responses to people speaking up on sexual harassment and sexual assault is are articles like âin wake of weinstein, men wonder if hugging women still okâ, and comments like âthis is why men donât pursue women anymoreâ, âi donât wanna work with women cause i donât want a lawsuitâ, or âi donât even look at women anymore cause everything is sexual harassmentâ. this is a particular brand of rape culture, men acting as if women are overreacting, as if men donât have the basic social skills to know the difference between wanted and unwanted advances, as if women simply setting boundaries is âcramping their styleâ and âemasculatingâ them, as if the rules of respecting women are super confusing, so confusing that theyâre supposedly forcing men not to interact with us altogether.
this is an act theyâve been putting on for decades: playing stupid, pretending not to know better and then getting upset when we tell them what âbetterâ is. if that doesnât show you how emotional and emotionally manipulative they are, i donât know what does.
