you: why is return of the jedi your favorite star wars??
me:
you: holy shit
It’s not my favorite SW film, but I love it a lot bc this is 100% the most extra Luke Skywalker has ever been, next to the time he astral-projected himself across the universe with a fresh dye job and Gucci loafers just to piss off his nephew. It took more than 35 years for Luke to top this moment and #respect
Media: but. . how do we represent the Gays™ if we dont kill them we’ll have to keep them on the show .. we’ll have to give them story arcs and . . personalities. .. we’ll have to . . write them …… like .. straight characters . how could we possibly write a character . . who likes the same gender but inherently has all of the other characteristics of a Strait person …………………how
I feel like the difference between the two types of transwomen isn’t discussed often enough here. Like I still think transgenderism is a crock of homophobic, misogynistic made up bullshit and that medical transition is unethical but
there is still a massive difference between gay men (who are often of color and already disenfranchised) who transition to lessen the effects of homophobia on their everyday lives and who generally leave women alone, and the (mostly white) straight men for whom cross-dressing is sexually arousing, who think lesbians are bigots for not indulging their fantasies, and who are taking control of and speaking over other members of the LGBT community.
Like, all those statistics you hear about transwomen resorting to prostitution and getting HIV and having disproportionately high murder rates? That’s happening to the gay men (again, mostly of color) who transition and who were already fucked from the start, not the (mostly white) straight men with cushy tech jobs and health insurance who transition in middle age.
The T in LGBT was meant for our gay brothers and sisters who feel that transitioning will save their lives in a society that tells them they’re an abomination, not for straight men who want to take their fetishes public.
you can tell that 99% of the commenters on this post have never researched gay history beyond the stonewall movie. reading is good for you, I promise
