I was down for the “toxic masculinity” discussion when it was talking about how MEN’S socialization as men from the time that they were children up to now makes them ugly monsters, but not so much now, since twitter kweers have taken over the terminology, and think “toxic masculinity” applies to anyone who is masculine (butches, whom they already hate), and does not apply to feminine men (“women & femmes” if you’re literally nasty). I saw Rhea Butcher tweet “Behold! I am non-toxic masculinity” and it’s like…yeah…because you’re a woman. This concept applies to males. Feminine men & trans ~women~ have toxic masculinity too, and that’s very clear from the way that they act toward women. The concept of toxic masculinity doesn’t exist in a vacuum; it doesn’t deal with how masculine someone presents, but rather how terribly men act to others as a result of their upbringing as males.
