a trans man that i dated a few years ago told me once that he was very worried about ever being placed in a men’s prison (not that he was even remotely criminally inclined, he was a sweet goof and it was just a hypothetical) because he knew that he would be at astronomical risk for sexual violence as a female person.
sexual difference matters for trans people when you’re a member of the oppressed sex class, and saying that a penis is the same thing as a vagina does nothing to help vulnerable people.
The often ignored consequence of policies that put trans-identified males in women’s prisons is that trans-identified females will go to men’s prisons. All for the sake of ‘helping’ males who worry they are at risk of violence, but no one cares about females who are at risk.
Well of course they don’t give a shit on how it affects “people with vaginas” on either side. It’s almost like “people with vaginas” are oppressed based on some universally shared trait or something.
