It’s much easier for cis gays to complain about the Gross Freaky Weirdo connotation the word “queer” allegedly has because gender conforming cis gay people aren’t actually Gross Freaky Weirdoes as far as most people are concerned. They’re the most socially acceptable alphabet soup noodles you can possibly show in media or be in real life. They’ve never had to deal with internalized homo- or transphobia in that way because of the way they present themselves to the world, and it shows 🤷♀️ no one who’s that sheltered from attack will be interested in “reclaiming” a word they consider a slur (even though it’s not). It speaks to privilege when people talk this way, and if you call me a homophobe for saying that you’re a transphobe too
>Queer synonyms: strange, odd, unusual, can also be used to indicate sickness. Nothing “alleged” about it.
>Gays are so socially acceptible that we are sometimes in TV shows! Never mind the high rates of violence against us, nevermind that a large portion of society thinks we are immoral, never mind our elevated suicide rates. Liberal media is not a true reflection of lived experience.
>Gender conforming gays have never had to deal with internalised homophobia LMAOO what fucking planet do you live on and can I visit? Also, gender roles and expectations are based on heterosexual norms, being gay is inherently gender non-conforming. A femme doesn’t adhere to societies expectation of womanhood, motherhood, all that jazz because she wears a dress and lipstick.
How divorced from reality was OP when they vomited this hot take out?
Either living in a totally different parallel universe or they just don’t know what the fuck they’re talking about
“gender conforming cis gay people aren’t actually gross freaky weirdos as far as most people are concerned” oh my fucking god my brain is melting
The idea we don’t experience internalized homophobia is what got me
